Good to know when you move in Cologne
Parking ban zone: Many Cologne streets have no space for a truck. A Halteverbotszone must be requested at least three weeks before your move, and the signs go up 96 hours in advance. We handle both.
Registration (Anmeldung): Within two weeks of moving in, you must register your new address at a Bürgeramt. Take your passport or ID and the landlord's confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung).
Handing over the old flat: German leases usually require the flat to be returned empty and broom-clean (besenrein). The landlord checks it with you and writes a handover protocol (Übergabeprotokoll) – the basis for getting your deposit (Kaution) back. We can clear what is left and leave the flat ready for the handover.
Tax: Moving costs can often be deducted from your German income tax – as household-related services, or as moving expenses if you move for work. Keep your invoice.

Do I need a parking ban zone (Halteverbotszone) in Cologne?
In most Cologne streets, yes – otherwise the truck may have to park far away and the move takes longer. The permit must be applied for at least three weeks before the move, and the signs must be up 96 hours in advance. We handle the application and the signs for you.
Do I have to register my new address after moving?
Yes. In Germany you must register your new address (Anmeldung) at a Bürgeramt within two weeks of moving in. You need your ID or passport and the landlord's confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung). Book the appointment early – Cologne's Bürgerämter are often busy.
Can you help with an IKEA or furniture store pickup?
Yes. We pick up furniture from IKEA in Godorf or at Butzweilerhof, POCO, ROLLER and other stores, carry it upstairs and assemble it. Water and power connections for kitchens are done by a licensed tradesperson.
Do you move from Cologne to other cities?
Yes – to Düsseldorf, Bonn and the rest of Germany, and to neighbouring countries.
Do I have to pay in advance?
No. There is no prepayment – you pay only after the handover. Travel within Cologne is free of charge.
Is my furniture insured during the move?
Yes. As a moving company we are liable for your goods under German commercial law (HGB). Ask us if you want additional cover for valuable items.
